Life Cycle
- A female toad lays a few hundred eggs each time. Each egg is protected by a jelly like substance. The embryo of the toad grows by cell division, which then hatches to become a tadpole.
- Once a tadpole, the toad can swim freely, and feeds on microscopic plants and decaying animal matter. Tadpoles breath through external gills.
- After about 6-8 weeks, the tadpoles develop hind legs.
- At 3 months, lungs and forelimbs appear, while the tail shrinks. The toad loses his gills.
-The toad has now finished the full growth cycle. The frog will now look for a mate, in order to start the whole process over again for it's own offspring.
